Thompson Turner Construction was commissioned by Berkeley County School District to provide Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) services for design and construction phases of the new Philip Simmons High School.

About the Project

The new high school is a 230,000 SF facility and was constructed in the development of the Cainhoy Plantation. Opened in August 2017, the high school houses 1,400 students with core facilities to accommodate a potential expansion to 1,600 students.

The design of the school was planned around learning communities or academies that create smaller schools within the realm of a larger high school. The new high school features a 1,000-seat theater, a full-size gymnasium with an auxiliary gym, a STEM facility, a health science academy, outdoor learning centers, and a business and hospitality academy.
