Boiling Springs High School
About the Project
Thompson Turner Construction performed a facility study of Spartanburg School District 2, in conjunction with their architect, to help ascertain the best option for how to deal with their growth. We looked at several options and helped to develop the program and budget for heir total bond referendum which ultimately to our team being hired to provide CM At-Risk services for the construction of the new Boiling Springs High School. The site of this school is located adjacent to the existing high school. The project includes a new 320,000 SF, 85-classroom high school and the renovation of the existing high school into the 9th grade academy. Highlights of the project include establishing the position of the building in relationship to the site keeping in mind access, connectivity to the existing BSHS and solar orientation, providing a safe and secure setting, enhancing the indoor/outdoor connection, incorporating views and natural daylight throughout the building, and developing a welcoming and clear identity for the site that will be pleasing to the community.
The existing high school was renovated to serve as the new 9th grade academy. Scheduled to open in January 2020, Boiling Springs High School was delivered six (6) months early with savings of over $3.5 million returned to the District to be used for the 9th grade academy renovation
