Thompson Turner Construction was hired to provide design-build services for the 170,000 SF addition to Caterpillar’s existing hydraulic manufacturing plant in Sumter.

The building was constructed on conventional spread footings with steel columns, bar joists, and metal deck frame. Exterior precast wall panels are supported on continuous perimeter footing with 8” unreinforced concrete floor slabs located in the plant area.

Exterior site improvements were made and included wetlands mitigation, grading, storm drain, access roads, and parking and landscaping. This was the fastest construction delivery in Caterpillar’s history.
