Thompson Turner Construction delivered the new 110,000 SF East Lake Elementary School via CM At-Risk in Holly Hill, SC, for the Orangeburg County School District. As the first new elementary school built in eastern Orangeburg County in over 70 years, this two-story facility represents a generational investment in public education, consolidating students from Holly Hill, St. James Gaillard, and Vance Providence elementary schools into one modern, future-ready campus designed to serve up to 700 students in grades Pre-K through 5.
The building features flexible, state-of-the-art learning environments that support both current academic programming and future growth. Classrooms are equipped with full-sized refrigerators and are complemented by collaborative teacher suites with private restrooms and kitchenettes. Dedicated STEM labs, a large gymnasium, outdoor patios, and turf playgrounds provide students with enriched educational and recreational opportunities.
Engineered for long-term durability and operational efficiency, the facility is built on a steel structure and incorporates energy-efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Durable finishes and low-maintenance materials were selected to reduce lifecycle costs and support sustainable building performance.
Extensive site development included the demolition of the former Holly Hill Elementary School to allow for a new student drop-off loop and expanded parking. Additional infrastructure improvements included a new bus loop, designated teacher parking, and upgraded stormwater systems to enhance traffic flow, safety, and drainage across the campus.
