Thompson Turner Construction was selected by Florence County to deliver a multi-phase expansion to The Florence Center with the goal of increasing its capacity to host larger events and driving continued economic development in the surrounding area.

The project added over 18,000 SF of new meeting, pre-function, and kitchen space, executed in three coordinated phases. Phase 1 included an 11,000 SF expansion featuring a new front lobby, pre-function space, multiple configurable meeting rooms, and a 5,000 SF commercial kitchen designed to support banquets, conferences, and large-scale catered events. Phase 2 added an additional 4,400 SF of meeting rooms and 3,300 SF of expanded pre-function area, enhancing the Center’s ability to host concurrent events. Phase 3 focused on site improvements and landscaping upgrades to complement the facility’s increased capacity and improved attendee circulation.

Construction extended into the lower parking level of the existing center, requiring complex structural coordination and utility adjustments. The project team collaborated from day one to develop a phased schedule that preserved uninterrupted public use of the facility. By isolating work zones and sequencing activities to avoid conflicts with the Center’s active event calendar, Thompson Turner ensured ongoing accessibility for guests and event planners throughout construction.

This expansion elevated the Florence Center’s profile as a regional event destination, positioning it to attract larger conventions, concerts, and community events while supporting the broader economic goals of Florence County.
