Thompson Turner Construction will complete a major expansion and renovation for Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina’s Columbia campus, adding a new independent living building and improving select areas of the existing facility. The expansion will include a 204,915 SF independent living building with 88 residences, each featuring a private balcony or patio. The building will include a semi-submerged parking deck with four levels of wood-framed residential construction above.
The project will also involve phased additions and renovations to the occupied existing facility, with work ranging from light renovations to more complex construction efforts. Interior improvements will include replacement of existing ceilings in the B and C corridors, realignment of fire sprinkler heads, new fire alarm devices, and updated lighting.
Exterior improvements will enhance the appearance of the existing facility through selective whitewashing, dormers, fiber cement trim, EIFS, masonry work, and faux columns. Sitework will include extensive rock blasting and grading to accommodate the semi-submerged parking deck, along with required utility work and related site improvements.
Because the work will take place on an active senior living campus, construction will be carefully phased and coordinated to support ongoing operations and minimize disruption to residents, staff, and visitors.
