The team of Thompson Turner Construction and SSOE / S&W was hired by Prisma Health for the expansion and renovation of the existing emergency department at their Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital location in Sumter, South Carolina.
Thompson Turner Construction was selected by Prisma Health to deliver a multi-phased expansion and renovation of the emergency department at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, SC. The project scope included the construction of a new 14,500-square-foot emergency department addition and the renovation of approximately 5,000 square feet of existing clinical space. The expansion improves patient flow, supports updated care delivery models, and increases capacity for emergency care services.
In addition to the vertical construction, Thompson Turner Construction performed significant civil work on adjacent properties to support the reconfiguration of patient drop-off areas, create a more efficient site circulation plan, and expand parking to accommodate increased patient volume. The work also included the installation of infrastructure to support an imaging trailer and other critical site improvements.
This project was delivered under active hospital conditions, requiring careful phasing and coordination to maintain uninterrupted emergency services throughout construction.
