Prisma Health Tuomey Retail Pharmacy & Pharmacy Relocation

Thompson Turner Construction recently completed a multi-phase renovation and relocation of pharmacy services for Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, SC. The 9,000 SF inpatient pharmacy relocation on the hospital’s second floor required extensive demolition and reconstruction on an active patient floor. The scope included the build-out of specialized spaces such as integrated clean rooms, high-density pharmaceutical storage areas, and controlled environments that meet regulatory standards. Coordination with owner-selected vendors was critical to the project’s success, including integration of ProPharma clean room systems and Omnicell automated dispensing units.

The 3,000 SF retail pharmacy was constructed on the ground floor of a former bank building adjacent to the hospital. The renovation involved structural and MEP modifications to convert the commercial space into a fully functional pharmacy with secure medication storage, a customer service area, and immunization space. The project included specialized finishes and systems to meet regulatory and safety standards for pharmaceutical operations.

Both pharmacy renovations required tight scheduling, vendor integration, and compliance with healthcare construction standards in occupied and constrained environments. Thompson Turner Construction's ability to manage complex logistics and coordinate with multiple stakeholders ensured timely delivery and readiness for state licensing and operation.
