Thompson Turner Construction is serving as CM At-Risk for the multi-phased, three-year renovation of Stevens Barracks at The Citadel, a four-story student housing facility originally constructed in 1942. The project encompasses a comprehensive modernization of all 225 cadet rooms and associated building systems, enhancing functionality, safety, and energy efficiency while preserving the facility’s historic character.

Interior upgrades include sound-dampening improvements, new flooring, millwork, and a complete overhaul of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The scope also includes hazardous materials abatement, termite and moisture damage remediation, and installation of a new fire riser assembly along with sprinkler head replacements to meet current life safety codes.

Beyond the barracks, the project includes campus-wide infrastructure enhancements such as underground utility upgrades, the installation of new electrical service to support building systems, replacement of the campus chiller, and the addition of new steam vaults and piping insulation. Civil improvements include roadway and fire lane replacements to support emergency access and campus connectivity.

Through careful phasing and coordination, this renovation will significantly extend the useful life of Stevens Barracks while improving comfort and safety for future generations of Citadel cadets.
